How is MudCats different than other Metrology software on the market?

Designed specifically for the metrology industry, MudCats was developed by our in-house Metrology Engineering Group. Over the years, Edison realized the burden of consistently meeting calibration technical and quality requirements while reducing costs and streamlining business processes, could only be accomplished with a innovative software system based on real-time collection and analysis of calibration data. Years of development and testing have gone into our software that has been designed specifically for all metrology disciplines.


What is Mudcats?

MudCats is a comprehensive calibration solution that enables metrology organizations to effectively schedule, plan, manage, track, calibrate and assess profitability throughout the laboratory. With streamlined processes, real-time data collection, improved turn times, calibration lifecycle costs are reduced and assets are cost-effectively returned to the client.

Mudcats Metrology Suite combines all the necessary metrology tools a calibration lab needs. With built-in automatic calculation of test accuracy ratios and estimated measurement uncertainty, to automation scripting commands, reverse traceability, interval analysis, production tracking, administrative tools, on-site capabilities and more, MudCats provides all of the tools necessary for running a successful calibration lab. Why MudCats?

The technology for calibration laboratory management systems has been in use for many years. However, until now there has not been a single system that addresses the actual process of calibration and data collection. Most metrology laboratories find themselves collecting calibration data with various methods. Some use dedicated ATE systems or systems developed for a single process or discipline. Others may use word processor or spreadsheet programs to create data sheets and collect data manually.

Conformance Testing

MudCats takes the guesswork out of determining the conformance or nonconformance with a specification by incorporating the ability to apply uncertainty-based guard bands to calibration tolerances. Managing conformance testing requirements is easily accomplished utilizing MudCats calibration software tools to evaluate measurement uncertainty and apply documented decision rules.


Real time units of Measurement

MudCats' units of measure converter revolutionzes datasheet design, uncertainty calculations and calibration data collection by automatically interpreting and converting units of measure between your Standard(s) and the unit tester. Automatic EMU and TAR/TUR calculations facilitate rapid implementation of conformance testing, and conversion errors are virtually eliminated, guaranteeing faster and more reliable calculations.


Datasheet Design

Quickly and easily create datasheets that are consistent in form and function. Let the integrated tolerance calculator use manufacturer's specifications to automatically create test points, calculate tolerances, embed specifiaction data and format the data. Build your own datasheets using MudCats' built-in wizards or create your own wizards with the Wizard Workshop. MudCats Datasheet Designer increases productivity by eliminating time-consuming and error-prone manual datasheet construction.


Automatic EMU and TAR Calculations

One of the most important and powerful features in MudCats is the ability to calculate Estimated Measurement Uncertainty (EMU) as well as Test Accuracy Ratio/ Test Uncertainty Ratio (TAR/TUR). MudCats automatically calculates each test point's EMU, using sources of error from standards accuracy specifications, inverse normal distribution function, in-tolerance probability, and uncertainty contributed by the measurement resolution. Thses sources of error are combined with a suitable coverage factor and expressed as EMU. The TAR/TUR ratio is calculated between the UUT and the applicable standard's function and range.

Automation Scripting

MudCats allows the user to add automation scripting commands to any row of a datasheet. This allows you to have a direct interaction between a row's script commands, test point data, and measurement data. With this direct correlation you can apply automation commands to a specific row or section of a datasheet by simply selecting the applicable datasheet row.


Multi- Channel Data Collection

Calibrate up to 8 instruments at one time utilizing MudCats exclusive multi-channel data collection technology. Each channel includes display modules for "As Found" and "As Left" data. Individual channels can be edited, saved, and printing individually.

Parametric Data

MudCats collects and stores parametric and calibration data on a point by point basis. Test point data is stored in the MudCats database and is available for statistical analysis.


Workflow Management

Nearly every calibration lab struggles with taking information from the lab into the field. We offer laptop capabilities to conquer this challenge that make MudCats fully mobile and portable.

Tracking Performance

MudCats tracks and manages calibration procedures used throughout the laboratory. This helps ensure the calibration procedures being used have been reviewed and approved, and are the most recent and up-to-date.
